Gravel Adventure Field Guide

To help promote the amazing gravel ride options in the relatively undiscovered remote southern plains around the city of Trinidad, CO, and with the desire to invent a new project, we made a book, short film, and PR campaign. With funding from the city, support from a few bike industry friends, Juan and I created the content, illustrated the maps, designed the book, and launched a PR campaign to draw people and their bikes, to this quirky colorado location. Juan lives in Trinidad, and started Backshop Bikes Travel Co. … we wanted to activate more tourism to help the town’s economy. We printed 6,000 books and gave them out at bike shops, attracted Lifetime to create an event, and have helped bring 2 to 5 groups of riders to town each week. An activation of 500+ riders and an estimated $500k into the local economy.

A fun short film.

To help promote the guidebook, we created a Wes-Anderson-inspired quirky short film that we could run with the press release and other media outlets.
